Welcome to Barbelo ("Barbelo," "we," "us," or "our"). These Terms and Conditions ("Terms") govern your access to and use of the Barbelo website, search platform, and AI-powered features (collectively, the "Service"), operated by [LEGAL ENTITY NAME], based in the European Union.

1. What Barbelo Is

Barbelo is a research and discovery tool that indexes publicly available podcast transcripts, lecture content, and related material, and provides:

  • Keyword and semantic search across this indexed content
  • AI-generated answers to user questions, based on retrieved excerpts from indexed sources, with citations to the original episodes
  • Related tools such as concept mapping and cross-source browsing

Barbelo is a research and reference tool. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or officially connected to any of the podcasts, podcasters, universities, or content creators whose material is indexed, unless explicitly stated.

2. Eligibility

You must be at least 16 years old to create an account and use Barbelo. By using the Service, you confirm that you meet this requirement.

3. Accounts

  • You may need to create an account (via Google sign-in or email) to access certain features, including AI Search.
  • You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account and for all activity under it.
  • You agree to provide accurate information and to keep it up to date.
  • We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms.

4. Free and Paid Plans

  • Barbelo offers a free tier with limited daily AI Search queries.
  • Barbelo may offer a paid subscription with expanded usage limits, billed on a recurring basis through our payment processor (currently Lemon Squeezy, acting as merchant of record).
  • Subscription prices, included features, and query limits are as displayed on the Service at the time of purchase and may change with notice.
  • You may cancel a paid subscription at any time; cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period unless stated otherwise. We do not provide prorated refunds for partial billing periods except where required by law.

5. AI-Generated Content — Important Disclaimer

Barbelo's AI Search and chat features use third-party large language models (currently Google Gemini) to generate answers based on retrieved excerpts from indexed transcripts.

You acknowledge and agree that:

  • AI-generated answers may be incomplete, inaccurate, or misleading, even when citations are provided.
  • Cited sources should be independently verified before you rely on any answer for important decisions (medical, financial, legal, academic, or otherwise).
  • Barbelo does not guarantee the accuracy, completeness, or reliability of any AI-generated content.
  • Barbelo is not a substitute for professional advice of any kind.

6. Acceptable Use

You agree not to:

  • Use the Service for any unlawful purpose
  • Attempt to circumvent usage limits, rate limits, or access controls (including automated scraping or bulk querying)
  • Reverse-engineer, decompile, or attempt to extract the underlying models, embeddings, or source code of the Service
  • Use the Service to generate content that infringes third-party rights, is defamatory, or violates applicable law
  • Interfere with the normal operation of the Service (including attempting to overload our infrastructure or bypass rate limiting)

We reserve the right to suspend or terminate access for violations of this section without prior notice.

7. Third-Party Content and Intellectual Property

Podcast transcripts, episode metadata, and related content indexed by Barbelo remain the property of their original creators and rights holders.

Barbelo indexes and processes this content for the purposes of search, reference, and citation — consistent with fair use / fair dealing principles where applicable — and does not claim ownership over third-party source material.

The Barbelo name, logo, design, and original software are the property of [LEGAL ENTITY NAME] and may not be copied or used without permission.

8. Disclaimers and Limitation of Liability

The Service is provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including but not limited to warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement.
